Over the weekend of March 19th and 20th, the United States along with Britain and France attacked Libyan air and ground forces with air strikes and missile strikes meant to protect the Libyan people. Soon, the 3 allies will impose a no fly zone over Libya that will prevent Muammar Khadafi from using his Air Force to attack his rebelling people as he has in recent weeks. After a democratic revolution in Egypt succeeded in deposing a president- the Libyan people rose up against their dictator-president. However, unlike in Egypt where the army stayed on the sidelines, the military forces of Libya mostly remained loyal to Khadafi and carried out brutal attacks against the people of Libya to reverse early gains by the people at taking back the Eastern part of their country.
This involves the U.S. in a 3rd hot conflicy- along with Iraq which is winding down, and Afghanistan which is still a dangerous place. President Obama has pledged that no U.S. ground troops will be involved, and that we will follow the lead of Britain and France in this engagement.
